The best could ever be

The nature of the world, as it can be observed by us on a linear time scale, is that any dynamic system, like a society, a person or even a planetary system, is right now in its best attainable state, for the simple reason that if if could have been in a better state - it would have been. So on a purely subjective scale, improving anything by even a small fraction should be considered a great achievement. 

But how does one know if any potential changes will actually result in improvements. How does one quantify improvement and overlay morals on an otherwise neutral world. For human things "better" comes from our morals. A just system is better than an unjust one. A free society is better than an oppressed one. But the more complex a system gets, the less obvious it becomes. Physics has no morals...
