Are moral standards just a self defense mechanism? Are they in place just to keep us from experience bad consequences to our actions? And if so would they be obsolete in a world without those consequences, like a virtual world? Wouldn't acting immoral in a world without penalties erode our morals in a world with those constraints? Ultimately, if something is wrong in one world, does that make it wrong in all the other ones or is it just a localized phenomenon, with localized effects? Would it be ok to kill someone on an isolated island w/ no society or laws? What about in a videogame?
